2019 Surry County Agricultural Fair: Exhibits
General Livestock Rules
Please check categories carefully before filling out an exhibit entry form!- All livestock competitions are open to youths 21 and under as of January 1, 2019
- Open to residents of Surry, Stokes, Forsyth, Yadkin, Wilkes, and Alleghany counties of NC and Grayson, Carroll, and Patrick counties of VA.
- Show Management reserves the right to limit the number of head if necessary.
- All animals are subject to be vet checked if necessary.
- All out of state animals MUST have health papers.
- All sheep and goats must comply with USDA and NCDA &CS Scrapie Eradication Program guidelines.
- All steers, barrows, and wethers should be completely healed from castration.
- Exhibitors are required to clean up their stall/pen area before leaving. (Manure, trash, hay, etc. should be cleaned out of bedding and placed in designated areas.) Your area must be ready for sanitary spray down after you leave.
- Entrants should complete an online Official Entry Form or download the pdf entry form to print & submit. Entry forms will be available prior to the 2020 fair.

Showmanship Rules:
- Novice – age 5 and under
- Junior – age 6-9
- Intermediate – age 10-13
- Senior – age 14-18
- Senior Plus- age 19-21
Age Divisions may be split into multiple cuts due to ring size if necessary.
Sheep
- All sheep arrive Thursday, September 5th, 10 am - 4 pm
- To be weighed/check in upon arrival. Must be dry when weighed.
- Released Friday after completion of shows
Market Lambs
- Open to wethers and ewes
- Show is Thursday, September 5th at 6 pm
- White face influence/hair sheep will show together
- Black face will show together
Ewes
- Can compete in Market & Ewe show
- Show will be in Friday, September 6th at 6 pm
- White face influence/hair sheep will show together
- Black face will show together
Sheep Showmanship
- Show Friday, September 6th following completion of Ewe show
Premiums & Prizes
Classes-- 1st: $20.00; 2nd: $15.00;
3rd: $10.00; 4th and beyond: $5.00
Division & Overall champion and Reserve champion monies & prizes to be determined by sponsorship
Meat Goats
- To arrive on Thursday, September 5th, 10 am - 4 pm
- To be weighed/check in upon arrival. Must be dry when weighed
- Released Friday after completion of shows
Breeding Does
- Does can be shown as market also
- Show is Friday, September 6th, following Ewe show and Sheep Showmanship
Meat Goats Showmanship
- Will follow completion of Breeding Doe show on Friday, September 6th

Dairy Goats
- Show to follow Dairy Cattle
- Check in upon arrival
- Released at 8 pm or completion of day's show, whichever is later
- Goats do not have to be registered
- Division 1- Mini/ Dwarf: 1-1 Jr. Does 1-2 Sr. Does
- Division 2 – Standard: 2-1 Jr. Does 2-2 Sr. Does

Beef Cattle
- NO NURSE COWS
- Heifers and bulls arrive Saturday, September 7th 11 am
- Steers to be weighted at 11 am
- Show at 2 pm. Show order will be Heifers-Showmanship, Steers (market prospect), Bulls
- Cattle can come in on Friday, September 6th, 5 pm - 9 pm
- Released Saturday after completion of shows but not before 8 pm
- Market animals to arrive Sunday, September 8th by 3 pm
- Released Sunday at 8 pm
Heifers and Bulls
- 10 or more head entered in one breed will get their own breed division.
- All others will show together with commercial
- Classes will be divided by age

- Open to barrows and gilts (NO BOARS)
- Market hogs will be 200 lbs. and up
- Feeder Pigs will be 199 lbs. and under
- Classes will be determined by weight and total number of head
- Show day is Sunday, September 8th at 4 pm. Showmanship will immediately follow
- Arrive Sunday between 12 pm and 3 pm
- All pigs must be weighed by 3 pm (dry)
- Released after the completion of the days shows.
